I have a serious question for you. One that kept popping up in my client sessions last week.

And here it is:

How good are you willing to let it get?

If you are anything like the way that I used to operate, the answer is, “I don’t know, I am too busy thinking about everything else on my to-do list to even consider it.”

Weeks fly by and then it’s the weekend. Weekends fly by and then it’s Monday again.

You just try to get through the day so you can go to bed, get up and do it all over again.

And where does that leave you? Feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from your body and deep down, sad and numb.

Last week in a Discovery Call with a woman that is juggling a full-time job with building a small business on the side - plus nourishing her body properly as she prepares for an upcoming marathon - I asked her to fast-forward 1 year into the future and tell me not what she needs her life to look like in order to feel good, but rather what emotions she wants to feel on a daily basis.

She said:

  • content

  • spacious

  • rich, energized

  • joyful

  • light

My next question for her was, “What do we need to do in order to allow you to begin feeling that way right now.”

How good are you willing to let it get?

In other words, you don’t have to put off joy for some arbitrary point in the future.

We don’t have to wait for certain things in our life to line up how we think they need to in order for us to start feeling good today. We just have to give ourselves permission to start making our own self-care, health, emotional needs a priority.

An unhappy journey does not lead to a happy ending.

I know what it feels like to be bogged down with too many responsibilities, always putting everyone else’s needs in front of your own because that’s what you think you’re supposed to do in order to be a good wife/mother/sister/friend/employee/business owner.

Putting your needs last on the list of priorities is THE surefire way to sabotage your goals, your health, and your happiness.

Another client was struggling with finding time for her workouts and 10 minutes of unwinding time before bed because she felt it was her responsibility to make sure that after she came home from working a 10 hour+ day, she had to make dinner for her family and single-handedly take care of all of the household chores.

Here’s the thing, it’s okay to support those that you love. It’s okay to have goals. It’s okay to be a go-getter, driven woman.

But putting some goal, need to please, need to measure up, need for validation, or whatever else is driving you to ignore the voice inside that is screaming, “take care of me!!!” is not healthy for you.

It’s no one else’s responsibility to take care of your needs. It’s yours.

I know that may be hard to hear, but listen, girl. There is no greater gift that you could give to your loved ones, your employer, your business, etc than to say:

Hey, don’t you worry about me, I’ve got me covered. And I won’t worry about you, because I believe in you.

I believe that you don’t need me to put your needs before my own. I believe in your strength.

The greatest gift I can give to you, dear one that I love with all of my heart (or job that I appreciate, etc, fill in the blank) is to take good care of me, first and foremost.

Because without my health, then I truly have nothing to give to you.

I am an empowered, strong, amazing woman, worthy of self-love and self-care.

There have been times when I forgot I was capable of being this woman, but I have remembered now.

I am stronger than I thought. I am more powerful than I thought.

And I deserve the life of my dreams. It’s time for me to OWN my power, to step into it, and to no longer just try to get through one day so that I can do it all over the next.

It’s my time to THRIVE.
Because I can. And if I can, I know you can too.
